How often do we find ourselves running ahead of God or sometimes even falling behind on what the Lord would have us to do.
One day many years ago when my son was small, he and I and his little friend Amber set out to walk to the neighborhood store down the street. My son and his friend were about four years old and the street the store was located on was a rather busy thoroughfare. As we were on our way, I would suddenly realize I was walking alone, sure enough, I would look back and there they were giggling and talking up a storm as they were standing still. After calling their names a few times, they would realize how far away I was and come running full speed toward me. The only problem with that was they would run right past me and get too far ahead of me to be safe on that busy street.
A few days later the Lord brought the spiritual application of that event to the forefront of my mind and let me know that this is exactly the way we follow God a lot of times, we are either lagging behind him or running ahead of him in our presumption.
Oh, that we might learn to stay in close communion with the Lord through our prayer and devotion time, so we could stay in step with our Redeemer.
And in so doing, learn to do God’s work God’s way in God’s time.
I have found in my own life that if I will stay in the word of God, wait to hear from him, and seek him through prayer and fasting, that there is a much better chance that I will stay in step with his time frame for my life.
Just as Moses tried to deliver the children of Israel approximately forty years before it was God’s time. We too often tend to run ahead of God and get ourselves into some trying circumstances just as Moses did. It wasn’t until Moses spend forty years on the back side of the desert, that he was ready to do God’s work in God’s way and even more importantly in God’s timing.
We can also learn a lesson from King David and not run out ahead of God but, pray and wait on the rustling of the wind in the mulberry trees before we make our move!
